Montserrat is well-known for its 'Deepwater;' where shallow shelf-to-slope transitions 20 - 60m to up to 1000m occur. Within 1.5m offshore these grounds are commercially important to local fishers, yet we do not know what is in these areas. Local people have never been in a position to explore there blue backyard until now. This project will empower native Montserrratians to explore their shallow reefs to 'Deepwater.'

We are monitoring elasmobranch activity in Woodlands Beach area, gaining important insights into behaviours, and abundance.

We plan to deploy Maka Niu up to 300m in commercially important fishing areas.
